From crisis to clarity

CrossFit had lost its founder—and, in the middle of public controversy, some clarity about what it stood for.

After 20 years of growth, the brand had accumulated a lot of baggage. More than 4,000 employees needed a clearer answer to a simple question: Why are we here?

The challenge: CrossFit had become known for its workouts, boxes, Games, and community. But those were expressions of the brand, not its purpose. We needed to get underneath all of it.

The shift: We stripped away the accumulated complexity and found a simpler truth: This isn't about workouts. It's about ownership.

That became Own Your Health.

Not “get fit.” Not “be strong.” CrossFit gives people the tools to take more control of their health. That's the idea everything else could rally around.

The outcome: We built an internal manifesto around that purpose, giving employees a simple, human way to understand what CrossFit exists to do and why it matters.

The brand stopped defending its methods and started championing its purpose.

From crisis came clarity.
